Wren finished and some new drawings

Greetings, my fine feathered friend!
My little wren is finally finished! :)  The most difficult part was making the background interesting while also keeping it out of focus.  In order to achieve the effect you see here, I added a very light layer of white over the top of the background colors using linear strokes, a technique I normally reserve for creating fur textures.
My drawing board has been overflowing with projects lately in preparation for a show in April.  Here are two of those drawings:

While these are in my standard working size of 8x10 inches, I am also working on a 16x20 inch drawing of a mountain lion which I will be posting updates on very soon.
Until then: Happy Flying!

Wren Update #1

Greetings, my fine feathered friend!
While working on this drawing, I can often hear the real wren singing outside my window.  He has the most beautiful song!  And how he flits around bobbing his tail is adorable.  He is a very endearing muse :)

Songbirds in Colored Pencil

Greetings, my fine feathered friend!
I usually work on multiple pieces at a time, and lately I have been doing some smaller 5x7 inch drawings.  My drawing table sits in front of my window so whenever I'm working I can watch our resident songbirds.  These three drawings feature some of our feathered visitors: American goldfinch, nuthatch, and wren.  The wren with his funny little tail-flicking movement and gorgeous voice has become my favorite songbird to watch, and I'm currently working on another wren drawing.

I've been working away on this pair of wood ducks, and getting inspiration from the real-life pair that have been visiting our property :)

On the Drawing Board: Wood ducks

Greetings, my fine feathered friend!
I'm still working on getting the pictures from my art show reception posted as well as adding my newly finished works to my galleries here.  In the meantime, enjoy the start of the newest project that has landed on my drawing table :)

Red-shouldered Hawk in stages

Greetings, my fine feathered friend!
My drawing table has been full of projects lately as I get ready for my debut show in May! :)
I decided to share several snapshots of my latest colored pencil creation since I have been remiss in posting regular updates.  Now all that's left is to figure out the background.
Until next time: Happy Flying!

Bobcat finished!

Greetings, my fine feathered friend!
My bobcat is finally finished! :D  I'm really pleased with how he turned out.  I certainly learned a lot from working on this one.
Every time I finish an animal subject, I find myself having a deeper appreciation for God and His marvelous creations.
Until next time: Happy Flying!

And thank you for your patience.  It has been a while since I've posted an update on my work.  My bobcat is getting closer to completion, and I am so excited! :D  I hope to have him done within the next week or so.

Bobcat Update

Greetings, my fine feathered friend!
Look who's back! :D  My bobcat is starting to get his fur at last.  His nose was a fun adventure, trying to make it look rough but shiny at the same time.  To accomplish that gleam, I left some space white and then used an electric-powered eraser to lift some color off of other areas.  Varying the intensity of "white highlights" in this manner helped give the illusion of depth to the nose.
Until next time: Happy Flying!
